| I have decided I'm done with Xanga! It's just not as flexible as some other blogs I've found, namely my new one at Bethel - http://blogs.bethel.edu/blog/~frenat/, and also Voxtropolis - http://nathanfreeburg.voxtropolis.com/. Currently I am posting to both places, to see which one I like more.
Bethel's is much more flexible and customizable, but the Vox blog is
hooked up as part of a cool community. We'll see which one is better.
Check em out!

| Found a sweet site today. It's called LibriVox,
and it's a site that has FREE audio books. Ok, ok, I know what you're
thinking, "Free means you're stealing them..." NO! Not so my friends. NPR ran a story this week about a few sites that are doing amateure audio
books for free. It's sort of like Wikipedia, where the site appears to
be maintained by fans. Not sure what they do for quality control, looks
can be deceiving, but the site appears very professional. Because most
of these books are in the public domain, apparently they are free to
read and distribute online. Check the article out here to see for your self. Here's and excerpt from LibriVox's site.
"LibriVox
volunteers record chapters of books in the public domain, and then we
release the audio files back onto the net (podcast and catalog). Our
objective is to make all books in the public domain available, for
free, in audio format on the internet. We are a totally volunteer, open
source, free content, public domain project." librivox.org
I
guess you can also subscribe to their Podcast and get the new titles as
the come. I just downloaded "Pilgrims Progress" and will listen to it
soon. There are tons of titles right now, and more coming soon. Mostly
they have classic literature like "Alice in Wonderland, Wizard of OZ"
etc. Let me know what you think.
By the way, my new blog is at http://blogs.bethel.edu/blog/~frenat/. It's free, it's through Bethel and it works better than Xanga.

| In this first section in Mark, we see Jesus performing many miracles,
and hear how the people react to them. One theme that stood out to me,
was that there were sever times (2:25, 3:23, 4:11, 1, 8:21, 9:19 and
othes), where Jesus has to explain himself, or expresses frustration
because the disciples don't understand something he has said. It's good
to know that even his closest follwers couldn't always understand his
teaching. It seemed however, that they usually weren't afriad to ask
Chapter 3:2-29 "If a kingdom is divided against itself, that
kingdom cannot stand." There are so many examples of this in the
church, or even at Bethel where I work, that these words seem so
obvious. Jesus goes on to talk about this in the context of Satan being
divided against himself. I feel like this sometimes; divided by the
things I want to do and the life I want to live, vs. the way I actually
live.
Chapter 6: 8 - 11 I always
enjoy reading this passage of where Jesus sends out the twelve. He
sends them out with nothing except the clothes on their bodies. What
faith t his must have taken on their part. It's one thing to trust that
Jesus will provde for them, but another to trust that the people whom
they will be preaching to will also provide. I forget often that God
does use other people to help meet needs or show truth to me in some
way.
I think I'll write more later. I'm out of time for the morning.

| Several times in my life, I've attempted to read through the bible in a
year. It usually works until about February, then I get so far behind
that I quit. This year I decided to try it again, but am going to do
something that seems a bit more realistic for me.
1. I will attempt to read just the New Testament.
2. I will only read 5 days a week.
3. I will attempt to blog as much as possible about what I read.
More and more I am realizing that when I set goals for myself, they
need to be realistic. I feel that I am more aware of myself and know
what I have time for. I found a pretty cool plan here; http://www.navpress.com/Assets/PDF/Magazines/DJ/5x5x5_BRP.pdf. I
realize this is nothing magnificent or monumental, but it's a little
goal that I've had for quite some time and 2006 could be the year to
make that happen!

So this
morning I got up before Malia (which is rare) and went and had some coffee in
the living room for about 15 minutes. She had been up late the night before
studying, and her alarm kept going off every 7 minutes (as she kept hitting
snooze) so I knew she was tired.
I went
back into the bedroom to turn it off for her and see if she wanted to get up or
was going to sleep in. I turned the alarm off and then started to get back into
bed to very gently and delicately whisper in her ear that she should sleep in
and I could wake her in an hour or so if she wanted when, KAPOW, I get cold
cocked in the side of the face! My glasses go flying and I’m doubled over on
the floor in pain. I thought for sure my nose was broken, or at the very least
bleeding.
For reasons
I do not fully understand, she though I was an intruder come to rape her or
something, and in her mostly still asleep state, struck out in violence. It
didn’t hurt too badly, but it bent my glasses. I was more shocked by the
brutality of my otherwise peaceful wife than in pain. We both started laughing
and I think she was almost as startled as I was.
Of
marriage is fun! It’s thing like getting decked in the face at 7 a.m. and then spending
the next 15 minutes laughing about it that I am reminded of the joy, mystery
and excitement that this women with extremely bad breath brings to my life.
